Northwest Ambulance District has moved in to the new station after years of planning. Ground breaking
ceremony was held on July 5, 2002 at 9:00 am at 1480 South Broadway in Geneva. The ground breaking had
a twist that about 70 citizens who were present had no idea what to expect. NAD board members from Geneva
City, Geneva Township, Austinburg, and Harpersfield, along with the NAD employers were ready to break
ground when after the count of three they walked into the crowd. Eleven shovels were handed to taxpayers
from the four districts. Those people chosen felt honored to do the ground breaking. " We felt without
the taxpayers this wouldn't happen. It is a great honor to have you do this." Geneva City Councilman
and NAD board member Dennis Brown said. The new building is 7,150 square foot which includes a meeting
room and training room, four bunk rooms, maintenance room, kitchen, treatment room, offices, showers,
a day room, and public restroom. The building project cost was $ 796,000, with another $ 25,000
for furnishings and $ 18,000 for miscellaneous items. The total cost will be $ 894,000. J. Peter Shannon
of Madison was the architect, while the contractors were Detrick Industrial Piping Co., of Ashtabula,
V.L. Chapman Electric, Ramsey - Bennett Co., of Cleveland and Vendrick Construction of Brookfield.
